Seabury APG Client Greenville-Spartanburg Secures Southwest Airlines Service

Southwest Airlines to Begin Service at Greenville - Spartanburg International Airport

GSP International Airport - A new airline is landing in the Palmetto State, Southwest Airlines announced today their plans to begin service to both GSP and Charleston.

Roger Milliken, Chairman of the GSP Airport Commission said, “I am extremely pleased that Southwest Airlines has announced that it will provide air service to the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport within the next 12 months. Southwest will be a great partner for the Upstate for many years to come. The presence of Southwest in the Upstate will have a positive impact on business recruitment and retention which will improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of the region.”

“The Southwest announcement comes as a result of an extraordinary amount of hard work done by staff, community leaders, elected officials and industry experts,” said GSP Executive Director Dave Edwards. “This was a team effort that has been years in the making but clearly took on a new life in June of last year when the Southwest team made a 3 day visit to the Upstate. While here, the team heard and experienced the vibrancy of the Upstate through the participation of community leaders, elected officials and aviation experts Damon Hylton of Seabury APG and Michael Lum of the Sixel Group about the potential for success in this market. This is a game changing announcement for the future of the Upstate,” said Edwards.

Southwest has yet to announce which cities they plan to serve from the Upstate but their arrival is expected to stimulate the competition with their trademark low fares and outstanding customer service. Minor Shaw, Vice-Chair of the GSP Airport Commission said, “this is great news not only for the many passengers we expect to take advantage of this new service but also for economic development and the creation of new jobs. In the past, we’ve missed some opportunities to lure new business and industry to the Upstate because of our lack of affordable air service; Southwest will help us to change that.”

Details about an exact start date and destinations will be made available soon.
